There are times you would like to seed or overseed a lawn, but it may be at the wrong time of year when air temperatures could be working against you. A case in point is the late summer seeding or overseeding of lawns. No longer do we want to apply seed the first days of September because temperatures in the 90’s will prevent some seeds from germinating. We’ve learned over the years that you can seed with fantastic results if you wait until daytime temperatures fall below 90 degrees when you will find excellent germination of your seeds.Here are definitive temperature ranges for seeding and overseeding lawns:
* Kentucky Bluegrass: 59-86 degrees
* Chewings Fescue: 68-77 degrees
* Fineleaf Fescue: 65-80 degrees
* Tall Fescue: 68-86 degrees
* Perennial Rye: 68-86 degrees
* Zoysia: 68-95 degrees
